- Cistus purpureus - Large crimson flowers with chocolate markings - silvery foliage - mound forming evergreen shrub - easy to grow - drought tolerant
Cistus purpureus, commonly known as Rock Rose is a hardy evergreen shrub with mid green leaves and crimson saucer shaped flowers with chocolate basal blotches with 5 petals. Each flower lasts just a day but many new flowers open every day through, early-mid summer.
Cistus purpureus makes an excellent shrub for a sunny mixed border. Requires little maintenance but can be trimmed lightly each year to retain shape - do not cut hard as this may damage or kill the plant. Best in a well drained soil in full sun to light shade
