Lowaters Nursery

A few bright days.....

January 2015

It's wonderful at this time of year to see the first flush of growth starting on the evergreens - cold clear days like today deliver high light levels and the greenhouses are able to trap a little warmth creating the perfect Environment for the first signs of growth.  Week 5 (next week!) is always a magical time on the nursery when you can see the plants growing - this is a combination of the increased daylength and light intensity.  Spring is marching our way!

January 2015

We are very pleased to be potting plants of a brand new variety of Penstemon flowered Antirrhinum at the moment.  Antirrhinum Pretty in Pink has been bred by Peter Moore (www.bredbypetermoore) and will be available for sale from late April as a flowering plant.

This superb new variety will flower all Summer long whether growwn in a border, tub or basket - the tubular pink flowers attract butterfliees and bees and really stand out.

Potting Summer Perennials

April 2014

We have been busy getting all the Summer flowering perennials potted, the young plants have all been potted into our peat free compost and are being set down on the capillary beds to grow on.  This will ensure we have a steady supply of attractive plants throughout the season.

We have potted over 35 varieties which include some of the best new breeding from around the world, they have been selected for their visual impact and length of flowering to ensure they will perform well in gardens or mixed planters.

Lowaters Reservoir

Reservoir refills!

October 2013

Despite the very hot Summer this year our reservoir has had enough water in it to keep us going all year.

The heavy rain over the weekend has reversed its decline and raised the level by 40cm, considering the size of the reservoir this is a huge amount of water to collect and will ensure we have a secure supply for next year.  Looking at the forecast for the coming week we should be back to overflow levels before long!

Hebe Heartbreaker crop 2013

Potting in ernest

August 2013

We are busy potting at the moment, most of the shrubs are potted and growing with many having recieved their first formative trims to ensure a good structure and mature wood on which to flower.  We are now potting the Hebe and the liners are fabulous this year, the peat free compost has worked a treat and the warm bright weather has pushed on growth well.  The rapid growth has enabled plenty of trims to get a superb framework at the base of the plant.
